JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON THE PARADOX OF THE IMMIGRANT PART 1.

The immigrant places great emphasis on them, as if they were holy relics at the alter of a venerable god. 

 The immigrant accords and maintains great value and reverence on to all the artefacts which he/she holds as the source of their identity. 

 As being the rock which is going to support them and get them through their sojourn in the land of 'otherness.' 

 The land and people they do not really want to become at one with, apart of, but which they look to provide them with whatever it was that took them there. 


Be it political refuge or economic need. The land and people which the immigrant has a resentful feeling towards. 

 Intending only to remain there until he/earns sufficient money and saves enough to return to his native country. 

 When he will 'become a big man.' Living in self-imposed isolation and not wanting to become 'contaminated' by the way of life of his host.  

 The 'purist' and myopic immigrant cuts themselves of from the people among whom they are living, only to find that, 20, 30, 40 or more years later.  


They are still living in a country, amongst a people whom they have neglected to become a part of. 

 To their own detriment, as returning to their country of origin, they would find that they are not welcome, except as possible targets for hustlers. 

 At least, not as welcome as they would have liked to be. They now feel unsafe and unable to live amongst their former country men and women.  

 And elect to live within the secluded security conscious iron-grilled communities of 'the returnees, the former diasporans.'

 Of course, it must be said that this is certainly not the mindset of all immigrants.  Whose ability and willingness to adjust, to accommodate and assimilate the 'life-styles' of their host or adopted countries.

   It is unlikely that things were ever getting better.   So, what are my thoughts about Hamas' unprecedented attack on parts of Israel, which has resulted in hundreds of men, women and children, some of them soldiers, being killed and thousands of Israelis becoming shocked and traumatised as they have probably never experienced before? So, if life were a bitch and then we die, need we say or do or think anymore of the matter? If life were a bitch and then we die, might we not surmise that it be our duty to screw life before we die, that we might gain some small pleasure, some small satisfaction from our life the life we live, before we die? But of course, some of us might as some point, consider that it is life which screws the living and not the living who does the screwing.
