Mfanyazaki remembered how puzzling and worried they were when the young duty doctor persistently tried to find a vein in their son’s limbs, to get some blood for testing.
But, despite his big forearms, could not find any veins.
How when the doctor did succeed in finding a vein, he could not get any blood from them, because they had collapsed.
Just like how Kazaliwa had himself collapsed on the dark street that night, before they took him to the Accident and Emergency Ward of the hospital.
Mfanyazaki and Nzuri remembered the concerned look on the young doctor’s face, when he asked Kazaliwa if he was using drugs, and got an affirmative response.
As he remembered it, the doctor pointed out the seriousness of the situation to Kazaliwa, including the fact that it could become life-threatening.
As Kazaliwa’ life spiralled out of control, at least, the control of his parents and family, the concerns and anxieties of his family would continue to increase.
His parents and brother would always be worried when he was out, as they could not know what he was up to, and would always, probably correctly, be anxious that he was not up to anything good.
Police from the local police station would begin to visit the family’s home, and the frequency of their visits would increase as Kazaliwa adverse behaviour intensified.
