JUST CONTEMPLATING ON - THE STRUGGLE FOR THE SOUL AND FUTURE OF AFGHANISTAN AND THE AFGHANS. PART 4.

It is probably not going to invest in the education of its young people, of both genders, but especially women.   In comparison to other religiously backward, but intellectually advanced Islamic countries. Such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, et al, have done, in order to not be left behind in. Yes, the Taliban government is never going to be an advocate of essential human rights.  The right of Afghans to decide for themselves whether the want to worship, or to be defined as 'Muslim.'  To decide for themselves whether they want to go to Friday Prayers or to pray five times a day.  Of course it is not exceptional in this respect; as the people of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, et al, are also expected to attend prayers and worship within the requirements of applicable religious laws.  Whether or not they really believe and want to worship.  The kind of burden which causes most of us who are living in more enlightened countries which have successfully thrown off the religious

AN ENIGMATIC AND POIGNANT JOURNEY AROUND MY AGEING AND EVOLVING MOTHER! PART 132.

Image
Well, I think that it would be accurate to say my dear mother is currently on an even keel, as it were.  I have not observed any noticeable decline in my dear mother's mental of physical state within the past several weeks.  Based on what she has been doing, my dear mother has the capacity and motivation to exist her bedroom and make her way, on her own and/or without her walking frame, to the other rooms in her apartment.  It is of course, the case that her capacity and motivation to make these forays, will be influenced by her psychological and physical state and her energy level at any given time.  But this is just as it is for many others. In terms of her appetite, it does appear that my dear mother has made a bit of improvement in her consumption of ordinary foods of the lighter varieties.  Soft food which she does not have to chew too much and, it appears, finding it difficult or uncomfortable to swallow.  Nevertheless, this problem of her reduced appetite remains a major o

And, in the same order of importance, the role of religion, namely Islam, in the country and the nation. Can Afghanistan become a modern and prosperous nation, in which the reasonable political, religious and other human rights of the individual and groups can be realised and safeguarded?  Or must those rights, or some or all of them be suppressed and suffocated in deference to Islamic monopolism? It would appear that, for some Muslims, the two perspectives are incompatible.  That it is not realisable for Afghanistan to evolve a modern, futuristic and prosperous nation, while retaining its essentially Islamic soul.  To some extent, this is not a surprising conclusion, since Islam, as the orthodox Muslim or believer would contend, is more than 'just a religion.' It, Islam, they would argue, is a way of life.  Whereas Jesus Christ - Isa, in Islam - was reported to have said that one is to give unto Ceasar what is his, according to the secular society or imperative, you might sa

ITALIAN GRAND PRIX - RARE WIN FOR RICCIARDO AND MCLAREN, AS HAMILTON AND VERSTAPPEN CAME TO GRIEF!! FINIS..

Of course, it is not just a matter of having a crash, but also about lives and limbs being placed at risk.   As we can see from the likelihood that Hamilton, but for the protection of his car's canopy, could have been killed or suffered major life-changing traumas during the accident. Contemplation of which was what could temper his and and Max's frustration, disappointment, and probably anger at being taken out of the race; irrespective of who was at fault or responsible for precipitating it.  Yes, it was this which is able to put into proper perspective the disappointment of the watching audience, for whatever expectations and hopes we had for either racer winning.  After all, if a racer had to suffer the disappointment of having a DNF, having one at the beginning or near the end of the race can be particularly tough. This spectacular take-out, after careful examination of the available information, by the Race Stewards, and irrespective of the conclusions of the pundits.

' It is likely to be the case that every misfortune, every tragedy or adverse event, though presenting challenges for those on whom they fall, also opens the doors to opportunities for others to benefit from them.'   At the extreme of examples, we see births opening opportunities for midwives.  Sickness opening opportunities for medical practitioners and those involved in the manufacturing of medicines and medical equipment.   And, at the other end of the life cycle, we see death providing opportunities for those in the funeral industries.  The bad that some people do, also create opportunities for others to redress. In the realm of professional sports, namely Formula 1 Grand Prix, we have the example of crashes involving the leading contenders.   Creating opportunities for other competitive racers to gladly take hold of the unexpected good fortune that fate has thrown to them.  And convert it into winning the race, and/or promoting themselves to positions they would not have

IT WAS WRITTEN IN THE STARS - AN ACCOUNT OF LIVES IMPACTED BY 'EVERYDAY ADVERSITIES.' PART 89.

It is not that Kazaliwa was not aware of this conundrum.   Of this unpredictable dimension, but rather that, in his normal state of high self-confidence.   In his belief in seeing things through the prism of being more positive than the proverbial average person.  Of trying to embody and energise himself with the spirit of success as he go about endeavouring to acquire and deploy the means to that success.  He seems to have a tendency to underestimate the duration and likely challenges of the journey between departure and arrival. This aspect of Kazaliwa's personality can prove very challenging for people with whom he interacts and those he has a relationships with.  It can cause him to become impatient and for those at the end of that actual or apparent impatience, give the impression of Kazaliwa being arrogant and lacking in humility and empathy.  To what extent this is or is not the case might be open to debate.  But it did seem to have some bearing in Kazaliwa having a disagr

JUST PHILOSOPHISING - ON THE CASE FOR HAVING CHILDREN! PART. FINIS...

Image
This is probably the very reason why ancient and more traditional and collectivistic societies became more preoccupied, not with whether or not a male loves a female.   But rather with the imperative of the survival and growth of the family, the clan, the tribe, by finding partners for their young men and women.  These are objectives which are achieved through the biological interaction between male and female, and not predicated upon whether they 'love each other.' With a bit of contemplation, it is not difficult to understand and appreciate how this basic protective system of protecting 'the family,  has, in time, expanded into 'the village', 'the clan', 'the tribe', the 'nation' and 'the country' which we now have.  Of course, what it has also done, is to promote the survival of our human species. Having children and more children has increased the hands and feet to be harnessed to the plough and its precursors.  It has provided
